What we store on your device, and why. In short: only what's essential to run the site.
LastSeen uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies. These are required for the site to function and to keep it secure. We do not use any tracking, advertising, profiling or analytics cookies, and we do not sell or share any information stored in cookies.
Because the cookies we use are strictly necessary, they are exempt from consent requirements under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). We show a brief notice about them for transparency, but we do not ask for consent to set them, as the law does not require it for cookies of this kind. If this ever changes — for example, if we introduce analytics — we will ask for your consent first, before any such cookie is set.
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. It allows the site to remember things between page loads — for example, that you are signed in. Some cookies last only until you close your browser (session cookies); others persist for a set period.
Sign-in session cookie

Purpose: Keeps you signed in as you move between pages. It is only set once you sign in to an account — anonymous visitors are not given this cookie.
Expires: When you close your browser (session cookie). Nothing is stored permanently on your device.
Security cookies (Cloudflare)
Set by: Cloudflare, our security and content-delivery provider
Purpose: Protects the site from malicious traffic and automated abuse, and helps distinguish genuine visitors from bots. These are set by Cloudflare as part of securing the connection.
Expires: Typically short-lived (around 30 minutes), though this is managed by Cloudflare.
Turnstile (Cloudflare)
Set by: Cloudflare
Purpose: Powers the "security check" on our sign-in, registration, sighting and removal forms, to prevent spam and automated submissions. Any storage it uses exists solely to complete that security check.
Expires: Short-lived, tied to completing the check.
We do not use analytics cookies, advertising or marketing cookies, social-media tracking cookies, or any cookies that profile you or follow you across other websites. Where we measure site traffic, we use a privacy-friendly, cookieless method that does not identify individual visitors.
Your browser may also show cookies from other websites you are signed in to (for example, Google) while our page is open. Those are set by those other services, not by LastSeen, and we have no access to or control over them.
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and set your browser to block them. Please note that if you block the sign-in session cookie, you will not be able to stay signed in, and some features that require an account will not work. Blocking the security cookies may prevent the site from loading correctly.
If we introduce any new cookies — particularly any that are not strictly necessary — we will update this page and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before setting them.
